Those misbehaving with medical doctors will face stern action, Home Minister vows

Kathmandu : Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has vowed to take actions against those assaulting and misbehaving with medical doctors.

The Home Minister said so during a meeting with Health Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet and representatives of Nepal Medical Council, Nepal Medical Association and other health-related organizations. The government is committed to meeting the concerns and issues of doctors and “will create environment conducive for doctors and health workers to work “.

He also urged the agitating doctors to rejoin their profession stating that the government has forwarded processes to book the assailants by taking them under control.

“Doctors and health workers have been attacked physically. Those involved in the attacks would be punished as per the Security of the Health Workers and Health Organizations Act,” Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha said.

Shrestha also urged the agitating doctors and health fraternity not to harbor any doubt on the part of actions to the wrongdoers adding that concerned agencies have been ordered to proceed with the legal process.

On the occasion, Health Minister Basnet said that anarchic situation could prevail if the incidences of misbehavior and attacks on the medical persons increase.

Likewise, Chair of Nepal Medical Association Dr Anil Karki and Chairperson of Nepal Medical Council Dr Bhagawan Koirala said that those resorting to violence against doctors should be punished.
