BRICS is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, representing the world’s leading emerging economies. Although it was formally established in 2009, its first informal meeting was held in 2006. After South Africa joined as the fifth member in 2010, the group began to exert greater influence on global geopolitical dynamics. BRICS primarily aims to promote economic, political, and technological cooperation among developing countries, push for reforms in global institutions, protect shared interests, and contribute to the creation of a multipolar global system.

Today, BRICS accounts for about 40% of the world’s population and contributes more than 25% to the global economy. It has established the New Development Bank (NDB) to provide financial assistance for infrastructure development in member nations. Additionally, it has created a Contingent Reserve Arrangement (CRA) to offer monetary support during financial crises.

Through its annual summits, BRICS continues to strengthen mutual trust and cooperation among member countries. It has also been instrumental in amplifying the voice of developing nations on international platforms. As a counterbalance to the dominance of Western powers in global politics and economics, BRICS is emerging as an influential force shaping the future world order.
