CFRD Handsover Key Education and Health Projects in Madhesh Province
In a major stride toward strengthening educational and healthcare infrastructure in Madhesh Province, the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD), with financial backing from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal and in collaboration with the Chinese Youth Pioneer Group, formally handed over two transformative initiatives: the “Enlightening the Future” education project and the “Aaramdayik Birthing Aviyaan” maternal health program.
The “Enlightening the Future” project supported two community schools with essential educational resources, including 144 sets of desks and benches, smartboards, whiteboards, stationery, and 602 sets of student uniforms. The project aims to improve the quality of education and learning environment, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting equitable access to education.
Simultaneously, the “Aaramdayik Birthing Aviyaan” initiative has upgraded maternal healthcare services at Madhesh Provincial Hospital by installing air conditioning systems in birthing rooms. The improvements are expected to significantly enhance the comfort and safety of mothers and newborns.
Prominent dignitaries attended the handover ceremonies. Former Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Ishwor Pokhrel and Speaker of the Madhesh Province Assembly Hon. Ramchandra Mandal served as chief guests at the education and health events, respectively. Other attendees included Chinese Embassy officials, provincial lawmakers, local government representatives, school administrators, students, and healthcare professionals.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Zou Zhiqiang, Country Director of CFRD Nepal, highlighted the ongoing commitment of the Chinese people and government to the development of remote areas in Nepal. “These initiatives reflect our deep friendship and shared goal of supporting the well-being and future of Nepali communities,” she remarked. She also acknowledged the support of local communities and authorities, reaffirming CFRD’s dedication to education, healthcare, and safe drinking water.
Since 2016, CFRD has reached over 30,000 students in Madhesh Province through the distribution of “Love Packages” and “Warm Packages.” During the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation played a critical role by installing handwashing stations, distributing food and educational materials, and supporting the construction of quarantine and oxygen facilities.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China. The handover events symbolized the deepening cooperation and goodwill between the two nations. Officials from both countries expressed hope that these efforts would continue to expand, bringing lasting benefits to underserved communities across Nepal.
